Destiny 2 In the Face of Darkness is a new quest added to the game in the Season of Arrival. In the Face of Darkness basically serves as an introduction to all the new mechanics that have been added, and it’s not overly complicated to complete. Unfortunately, there are some bugs that are making life hell for Guardians. That being the case, in our In the Face of Darkness Destiny 2 – Quest Progression Bugged guide, we’re going to show you how to complete the quest, and what you can do with the bugs.
How to Start In the Face of Darkness Quest in Destiny 2?
To start the In the Face of Darkness quest in Destiny 2, you first have to complete the A Shadow Overhead mission. At that point, the Face of Darkness should pop up in your quest list. The first step is pretty easy, all you have to do is head back to the Tower and talk to the Drifter. He’s going to give you the Seed of Silver Wings, and tell you to take it to an “invasion site on Io or Titan and complete the Contact public event.”
Long story short, all you have to do is go and complete the Contact event, either on Io or on Titan. At the time of writing, it’s on Io, but you’ll have to check where it is for yourself. After you do that, go back and talk with the Drifter again. He’ll tell you use the Umbral Decoder to decrypt the Umbral Engram. You can read more info on that in our Where to Decrypt Umbral Engrams, but basically, just use the small, furnace-like machine just below and to the left of the Drifter.
Taken Their Energy Destiny 2 Face of Darkness Quest Step Bug
To complete the Taken Their Energy step of In the Face of Darkness in Destiny 2, you have to complete either a Playlist strike, a Crucible match, or a Gambit match. That seems simple enough, but unfortunately, there seems to be a bug undercutting the experience. Apparently, what’s going on is, the game just doesn’t register you completing one of these activities. Sometimes, members of the same fireteam will get the next step, while others don’t.
There’s a chance that doing Control or Gambit Prime is going to help with this, but there’s no guarantee. Maybe it’s some sort of server issue, or whatever it is, there doesn’t seem to be any exact fix for it. All you can do is keep playing these events (if you’re doing The Bank Job parallel with this, you kinda have to anyway), and hope that the game eventually gives you what you need. Once it does, go back, talk to the Drifter, and you’ll get the Drifter’s Secret Stockpile.
How to Use Prismatic Recaster in Face of Darkness in Destiny 2?
Darkness Returns is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in which the Dragonborn must return the Skeleton Key to the Twilight Sepulcher and fulfil their oath to Nocturnal. 1 Background 2 Objectives 3 Walkthrough 3.1 First trial - Sentinels 3.2 Second trial - Light versus dark 3.3 Third trial - Hidden door 3.4 Fourth trial - Sentinels versus traps 3.5 Fifth trial - The inner sanctum. Once you get the Drifter’s Secret Stockpile, go to the Prismatic Recaster. That’s the large, oven-like structure to the left of where the drifter is standing. Interact with it, and then dump all 500 Twisted Energy. Once that’s done, click on the Gifts of Light and Dark tab, and unlock Umbral Enhancement I. After that, go into Umbral Focusing, and choose whatever Umbral Engram tickles your fancy. With those in your pocket, head back to the Umbral Decoder to open them. You’ll get some cool stuff, and progress the quest. Go back and talk to the Drifter to get the next step.
In the Face of Darkness Quest Bug – Can’t Start Means to an End
Another bug that plagues the In the Face of Darkness quest is that people can’t start the adjoining Means to an End mission. Basically, the quest just doesn’t appear in the Prismatic Recaster. This is a huge problem, especially since this is a weekly activity, meaning that it goes in and out. So, it could potentially mess up your progress, not just this week, but the next, as well.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any way for you to fix this bug on your own, barring maybe restarting the game and seeing what happens. On the brighter side, Bungie is aware of the problem, and are working on fixing it. By the time you read this, the issue might even be solved already. One can hope.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s new Stasis powers are a total game-changer for the massively multiplayer online looter-shooter. Stasis is already having a major effect in activities like Crucible. So if you’re looking to strengthen that power even more, you can augment your new subclass with Aspects that tweak your ice powers.
In order to do that, you’ll need to claim the Aspect of Control, a key item found during the Born in Darkness quest that's part of Beyond Light's main campaign. In order to complete this, you’ll need to find five Entropic Shards hidden around the icy new destination of Europa. These are unmarked on your map, so they’ll require a bit of hunting. Fortunately, we’re here to show you exactly where you can find them so you can get back to freezing.
How to start the quest
You’ll need to go through a few hoops to pull this off. The Born In Darkness quest becomes available once you beat Beyond Light’s campaign, but you’ll need to do a few things first.
Darkness In The Light Quest City Of Secrets
First, you’ll need to complete the Reclaiming Europa and Empire’s Fall quests, which unlock Empire Hunts. Once you do that, you’ll be able to progress through the Stasis Prototype quest. The end of that quest rewards you with Salvation’s Grip, an exotic grenade launcher that freezes enemies.
You will not be able to interact with Entropic Shards without this weapon. The shards appear as tiny black pyramids hidden throughout the map. When you see one, you’ll need to shoot it with Salvation’s Grip, so make sure you have the weapon and ammo for it when you set out to do this.
While there are more than five shards total, you’ll only need to shoot five to get the Aspect of Control. Here are the best five to focus on.
Location 1 - Asterion Abyss
To find this shard, you’ll need to climb the big structure in the middle of the Asterion Abyss. Open your map and you’ll see it near the western wall of the area.
Simply platform your way up the structure and head to the exact pinpoint in the map above, and you’ll find the shard.
Location 2 - Cadmus Ridge
Head into Cadmus Ridge and drive to the western edge of the map, shown above. You’ll find the shard tucked against an ice wall near the southwest of the area.

Location 3 - Concealed Void Lost Sector
This shard is located all the way at the end of the Concealed Void Lost Sector in Asterion Abyss. When you get to Asterion Abyss, look for the series of tunnels that are underneath the area north of the structure you climbed to get the first shard. When you’re underground, you’ll see a small cave entrance with a reddish light coming from it. Head in there to get to the Lost Sector.
You’ll need to complete the entire Lost Sector, so kill the enemies to open the gates until you get to the boss room. Take out the boss and all remaining enemies and then stay in that room. Look up and you’ll see an opening in the ceiling. There’s a shard right at the top where the light shines in. Shoot it and move on.
Location 4 - Riis-Reborn Approach
Make your way all the way up to Riis-Reborn Approach. If you’ve done the campaign, you’ve done this hike a dozen times by now. You’ll head through an elevator and then continue north, passing by waves of Vex.
Eventually you’ll hit a second elevator. As soon as you get to the top, you’ll be in a dark room with some steps in it. As you exit the elevator, look at the steps in front of you and walk to the other side of them. It’s hard to see, but a shard is hanging out right under those steps. Shoot it and you’ll only have one left.
Location 5 - Technocrat’s Iron
Continue to this shard straight from the last one (trust me, you don’t want to make this hike twice). From the elevator, just keep going until you warp into the next area. Run forward and you’ll eventually come to a fork in the road, allowing you to continue straight or hand a left. Take the left route and follow it as far as you can’t go any further (you’ll see Technocrat’s Iron pop up on your HUD, which is a signal that you’ve gone the right way). You’ll know you’re there when you hit a big round room with no exit and a servitor hanging out in the middle.

Kill the straggling enemies in this room and then look up at the walls. Standing at the entrance, you’ll see the shard hanging up by the wall to your right. Fire a crystal shot at it and you’re done!
Darkness In The Light Quest Taken Bosses
Once you’ve gotten all five, a new quest marker will appear at Riis-Reborn Approach. Head back up there and finish the mission to get the Aspect of Control.
Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available.
