Rajinikanth plays the role of a tough villager in this film. Jaishankar is a landlord of the village who is always in the process of usurping lands from villagers. His sister, Sumalatha and Rajni love mutually. Jaishankar approaches Rajni for a wedding proposal. Rajni initially considers it, but rejects later for the sake of his brothers. Rathi enters Rajni's family seeking refuge.

The official cast and crew along with the individual short film titles of Amazon Prime’s anthology film Putham Pudhu Kaalai directed by Sudha Kongara, Gautham Menon, Rajiv Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, and Karthik Subbaraj is out now.

Sudha Kongaraj’s episode is Ilamai Idho Idho, the film featuring Kalidas, Kalyani Priydarshan, Urvashi, and Jayaram in the lead.

Avarum Naanum/Avalum Naanum is the title for Gautham Menon’s episode, the film features MS Baskar and Ritu Varma in the lead.

The title of Suhasini’s portion is Coffee, Anyone?, the film features Shruti Hassan, Anu Hassan and Suhasini in the lead.

Rajiv Menon’s episode has been titled as Reunion and it features Andrea, Leela Samson and Sikkhil Gurucharan in the lead.

Miracle is the title for Karthik Subbaraj’s portion, he has chosen Bobby Simha and Muthu Kumar to play the lead.

Murattu Kaalai (2012) Movie Review:

It is indeed a matter of pride for superstar Rajinikanth – while he continues to reign supreme at the box-office even today, his yesteryear hits are also being remade with wonderful results! After Billa, yet another Rajinikanth film, Murattu Kaalai (also referred to as Murattukkalai), is being remade. Starring Rajinikanth and Rathi Agnihotri in the lead, the film was a rage in the 80s.
The remake stars Sundar C. and Sneha in the lead roles. Suman, who re-emerged in Kollywood with Sivaji, will play the villain (the role played by charismatic Jaishankar in the original). Vivek and Thyagu will reprise the roles of Surali Rajan and “Thengai” Sreenivasan respectively.
Since the original film is 25 years old, minor script modifications have been made to suit modern tastes. But the evergreen song ‘Pothuvaga Emmanasu Thangam’ and Murattu Kalai are inseparable – so the filmmakers have retained it in a slightly remixed avataar.
Gunanithi Amritham, who gave the hits Madurai Meenakshi and Manasu Rendum Puthusu 13 years ago, is the producer of this remake. K. Selvabharathy is the director. Srikanth Deva composes the music and Santario (of Dishyum fame) is the cinematographer.
The Plot
Kaalayan (Sundar) and his four brothers are inseperable. The village's big shot Varadharajan (Suman) and Kaalayan are at loggerheads. The spat becomes miserable when Kaalayan refuses to marry Varadharajan's sister. Meanwhile Bhuvana (Sneha), who is on the run from Varadharajan and his men seeks Kaalayan's help and the two fall in love. This brings in more trouble for Kaalayan so how is he going to solve all these problems? Watch out...
Performance & Techniques

Though the film is a remake of Rajinikanth's most popular film from the 80's, this version ends up as a typical masala film. Moreover it looks like a combination of Sundar C's earlier flicks like Veerappu, Sandai, Thee and Perumal. The best part of the remake is that Sundar C. has not tried to imitate Rajinikanth blindly. Suman gives an average performance while Sneha is passable. Over all the newer version of Murattu Kaalai works to an extent as it has all the elements required for a commercial pot boiler.
